INTERVISTA A PATRICIA LOGAN
In vista della pubblicazione di “Con” sesto capitolo della serie “Masters Boys” (sul sito dell’autrice è già disponibile in pdf, mobi ed epub, mentre su Amazon lo sarà in un paio d’ore) Patricia si è resa disponibile a rispondere ad alcune domande e vi garantisco che ne leggerete delle belle!! Non ci resta che ringraziarla per la sua disponibilità e a voi tutti auguriamo buona lettura.
3LS: What’s the hardest part of the writing process and how have you overcome it?
Patricia: For me, the hardest parts of any manuscript I write are the love scenes. It’s not necessarily because I find writing gay sex difficult because that part is easy. It is sometimes challenging to write sex scenes that are always fresh and new. It’s so easy to fall into the pattern of writing the same old thing: A. Kissing B. Blow Jobs C. Fucking. D. Cuddling. An author has to change it up now and then. As a reader, which I was before becoming an author, the worst thing for me was to read the same tired love scene. I find there is so much more fun for me when I get to the story-telling part. The way I overcome it is pretty simple. I just do it. That may sound silly but I tell myself, if I can write this sex scene then I’ll be able to write some story after that J
3LS: Qual è la parte più difficile del processo di scrittura e come la superi?
Patricia: Per me la parte più difficile di ogni manoscritto è scrivere le scene d’amore. E non necessariamente perché trovo difficile descrivere un rapporto sessuale gay, perché quella parte è semplice. Alcune volte, scrivere scene erotiche nuove ed emozionanti è una sfida, mentre è semplice scrivere sempre le solite vecchie situazioni: A. Bacio, B. Pompino, C. Scopata, D. Coccole. Un buon autore dovrebbe anche cambiarle di tanto in tanto. Come lettore, ciò che ero prima di diventare una scrittrice, la cosa peggiore per me era leggere sempre della solita vecchia scena di sesso. Ho scoperto che mi diverto molto più quando devo scrivere la parte relativa alla narrazione. E la supero abbastanza semplicemente. La scrivo e basta. Può sembrare una cosa stupida, ma dico a me stessa: se posso scrivere una scena di sesso come questa, allora sono di sicuro in grado di scriverci una storia intorno. 🙂
3LS: How much of what you write is based on personal experience?
Patricia: Well, obviously I’m not a gay man so I don’t have experience in a sexual sense. I do however, write characters who are real people who I’ve met over the years. Some of them, like my character Cassidy Ryan are based on real people. I based Cassidy on an ex-boyfriend. He was a cop and a submissive. I didn’t know he was a submissive until we’d been dating for about six months. One day he put me on the back of his motorcycle and drove me to a sex shop where he bought a BDSM magazine and a dildo. He wanted me to use it on him. I had no idea what he was talking about and it was about that time that I realized I was also a submissive so we weren’t very well matched. I also have written several friends into books and a lot of situations in my books are based on real life.
3LS: Quanto di ciò che scrivi si basa su esperienze personali?
Patricia: Beh, ovviamente non sono un uomo gay, quindi non posso avere esperienze sessuali in quel senso. Scrivo però di personaggi reali che ho incontrato durante gli anni. Alcuni di loro, come ad esempio per il personaggio di Cassidy Ryan, mi sono ispirata ad una persona reale, ovvero un mio ex fidanzato. Era un poliziotto ed un sottomesso. Non mi ero accorta che lo fosse se non dopo sei mesi di frequentazione. Un giorno mi portò con la sua moto in un sexy shop dove acquistò una rivista BDSM e un dildo. Voleva che lo usassi su di lui. Io non avevo la minima idea di cosa stesse parlando, e fu proprio in quel momento che capii che anche io ero una sottomessa, quindi non eravamo molto ben assortiti. Ho scritto di alcuni miei amici nei miei libri, e molte delle situazioni che descrivo si basano su esperienze di vita vissuta.
3LS: Have you ever based a character on a friend or an enemy?
Patricia: Yes. Jett is a real-life friend who I used to work with. You’ll learn more about that in “Secrets” so I can’t say much about it here.
3LS:Hai basato uno dei tuoi personaggi su un tuo amico o nemico?
Patricia: Si. Jett è un mio vero amico, a cui mi sono ispirata proprio per scrivere il romanzo. Scoprirete qualcosa in più in “Secrets” quindi non vi posso dire molto di più per ora.
3LS: Is there any sex scene that you’ve written that gets you so hot you had to take a moment?
Patricia: Oh yes! And I go back and read them now and then. LOL. One of them which you will remember from “Stix” is when Master C and Stix are watching Master J and Grit in the playroom. Cuss tells Stix to masturbate and then gives him a blowjob. That scene made me hot as hell when I was writing it. Another scene I love is when Jett is remembering the first time a man fucked him in a public bathroom. He ran home and masturbated three times w
hile he fantasized about it. I loved that scene and it never fails to get me hot.
3LS: Hai mai scritto una scena di sesso che ti ha eccitato così tanto che hai dovuto fermarti?
Patricia: Oh, si! E ogni tanto, torno indietro e me le rileggo! LOL. Una di queste, ve la ricorderete, è in “Stix” quando Master C e Stix stanno guardando Master J e Grit in una delle sale dei giochi. Cuss dice a Stix di masturbarsi e poi gli fa un pompino. Questa scena mi ha eccitato parecchio mentre la scrivevo. Un’altra scena che amo è quando Jett si ricorda della prima volta che un uomo lo aveva scopato in un bagno pubblico. Corse a casa e si masturbò tre volte mentre fantasticava su quello che era successo. Questa scena mi piace in modo particolare e mi eccita ogni volta.
3LS:Whip or flogger and why?
Patricia: I prefer a flogger because there are so many varieties of them that I can be very creative when choosing my sex toys. They also do a lot less damage and cause less pain so it can be more fun for the submissive.
3LS: Frustino o fustigatore e perché?
Patricia: Preferisco il flogger perché ce ne sono di molte varietà e posso dare spazio alla creatività quando li scelgo per le mie scene di sesso. Fanno anche meno danni e provocano meno dolore, diventando molto più divertenti per i sottomessi.
3LS:Have you ever played out a fantasy in your stories?
Patricia: Well, I did date a cop so yes, handcuffs played a large part in my real sex life. I also had a Dom of my own for a short time and that’s where I learned about the art of spanking and nipple clamps and how fun a little pain and being restrained can be.
3LS: Hai mai messo in pratica una delle scene che hai descritto nelle tue storie?
Patricia: Beh, uscivo con un poliziotto, quindi sì, le manette hanno fatto parte della mia vita sessuale per parecchio tempo. Ho anche avuto un Dominatore per un certo periodo, ed è in quel frangente che ho scoperto l’arte delle sculacciate e le pinze per i capezzoli, ma soprattutto quanto può essere divertente essere legati.
3LS: Is there something sexual you wouldn’t put in your books because it doesn’t turn you on?
Patricia: There are very few things but the two big ones that come to mind are golden showers and scat. Those two are big no-no’s with me and I just think they are gross. Blech!
3LS:C’è qualcosa che non scriveresti mai nei tuoi libri perché non ti eccita?
Patricia: Ci sono alcune cose, ma le due principali sono il pisciarsi e il defecarsi addosso. Questi sono due grandi no per quanto mi riguarda, perché penso che siano nauseanti. Blech!
3LS: Do you consider yourself more dominant or submissive in the bedroom?
Patricia: I am a submissive through and through. I love a man who can take charge and the more noise they make, the better. I love dirty talk which is why my characters talk dirty all the time
3LS: Ti consideri più dominante o sottomessa in camera da letto?
Patricia: Sono una sottomessa fatta e finita. Amo l’uomo che si preoccupa di tutto e più rumore fa, meglio è. Mi piace parlare sporco, e questo è anche un motivo per cui i miei personaggi dicono le parole sconce!! 🙂
3LS: Do you think it’s difficult writing about a polyamorous couple? What about living that lifestyle? Why or why not?
Patricia: Writing about it is easy. I’m writing it right now for the fifth book of my Invitation Only series… “Dallas”. I’ve done it several times with MMM and MMF books. Living it is an entirely different thing. I have a friend who is a submissive and lives full time with her Master. They’ve been together for over fifteen years and are happily sharing their sex lives with others, male and female, though mostly female. For them it is a way of life and my friend considers herself lesbian with the exception of her male Master. I think for most people, it would be very difficult in real life and I’ve had friends who’ve tried it, tell me it hasn’t worked out because of jealousy.
3LS:Pensi sia difficile scrivere di relazioni poligamiche? Cosa ne pensi della poligamia come stile di vita? Perché si o perché no?
Patricia: Scriverne è semplice, ne sto scrivendo una proprio ora per il quinto capitolo della serie “Invitation only”… “Dallas”. Ho avuto a che fare parecchie volte con storie MMM e MMF nei miei libri. Viverle è tutta un’altra storia. Una mia amica è una sottomessa e vive a tempo pieno con il suo Dominatore. Stanno insieme da più di quindici anni e sono molto felici di condividere la loro vita sessuale con altre persone, maschi o femmine che siano, anche se sono soprattutto donne. Per loro è diventato uno stile di vita e la mia amica si considera una lesbica, con la sola eccezione del suo Dom. Penso che comunque, per la maggior parte delle persone, sia molto difficile vivere questo tipo di rapporto nella vita reale e alcuni dei miei amici ci hanno provato, ma non sono riusciti a portarlo avanti per via della gelosia.
3LS: If you could choose, which actors would you choose to act out a sex scene from one of your books? Which book is it from?
Patricia: I w
ould choose Zack and Cassidy from “Catene d’argento” and the scene would be the love scene at Zack’s home in his playroom when Cassidy uses his safeword… yellow, when Zack tells him he wants to use a medical probe on him. The emotion between them is so strong that I thought it was a great moment between them. Zack’s reaction is so sweet when his lover is frightened. I would cast Joe Manganiello as Zack and Paul Walker as Cassidy.
3LS: Se potessi scegliere, quale attore sceglieresti per interpretare una scena erotica di un tuo libro? E da quale libro sceglieresti la scena?
Patricia: Sceglierei Zack e Cassidy da “Catene d’argento” e la scena sarebbe quella a casa di Zack, dove Cassidy aveva usato la sua safe word … Giallo, quando Zack gli disse che voleva usare un sondino medico su di lui. L’emozione che scaturiva tra di loro era così forte, che penso fosse un momento davvero importante. La reazione di Zack è stata così dolce quando ha visto lo sguardo spaventato del suo fidanzato. Sceglierei Joe Manganiello per Zack e Paul Walker per Cassidy
3LS: Imagine this scenario. You wake up in the middle of the night and someone is kissing you, they are the greatest kisser in the world. You make love to this person and in the morning they’re gone. All that is left is a small memento that lets you know it’s one of the characters from your book. What is the memento and who is the character?
Patricia: The character is Zack and he would leave me a black velvet collar to wear so I couldn’t forget him.
3LS: Immagina la scena. Ti svegli nel bel mezzo della notte e qualcuno ti sta baciando, ed è il miglior baciatore del mondo. Fai l’amore con questa persona, ma al mattino se ne è andata. L’unica cosa che ti resta è un piccolo ricordo, che ti fa capire che si trattava di un personaggio di uno dei tuoi libri. Qual è il ricordo e chi è il personaggio?
Patricia: Il personaggio sarebbe di sicuro Zack e mi avrebbe lasciato un collare di velluto nero da indossare, per non dimenticarmi di lui.
3LS: How do you react to a bad review of your work?
Patricia: I’ve written a lot of books, so I realize not everyone is going to like them. I get bothered when people don’t finish them and then give me a bad review. I got a one star review on “Grit” from a reader who said she’d read the whole series up to that point but when she got to the words “padded bra” at the beginning of the book when Grit was choosing what to wear for his evening as a prostitute, she had to close the book. She didn’t like to read that Grit was a transvestite and she gave it a bad review after reading only ten percent of the book. I thought that was unfair because if she had read the series, she would have met Grit in “Jett” when he was first mentioned as Diamond. I was really hurt and I posted the review on Facebook and let my readers respond to the reviewer. I didn’t have 
to say anything. One thing I have learned is that I never respond to bad reviews. If I’m upset by them, I let my loyal readers do it for me. My readers are the best in the whole world and I love them very much.
3LS:Come reagisci ad una recensione negativa sul tuo lavoro?
Patricia: Ho scritto parecchi libri e ho realizzato che non possono piacere a tutti. Quello che mi da fastidio, è quando la gente non finisce di leggere la storia e poi mi scrive una recensione negativa. Ho avuto una stella per “Grit” da una lettrice che ha detto di aver letto l’intera serie fino a questo romanzo, ma quando ha letto “reggiseno imbottito”, all’inizio del libro, quando Grit stava scegliendo cosa indossare per la sua serata di prostituta, ha dovuto chiudere il libro. Non le è piaciuto leggere che Grit era un travestito e ha scritto una recensione negativa, dopo aver letto solo il 10% del libro. Penso che questo non sia stato corretto, perché se aveva letto tutta la serie aveva già incontrato Grit in “Jett”, quando era stata presentata per la prima volta come Diamond. Mi sentivo ferita, così ho riportato la recensione su facebook e ho lasciato che fossero i miei lettori a rispondere a quella recensione. Non avevo nulla da dire. Una cosa che ho imparato è che non rispondo mai alle recensioni negative. Se mi danno fastidio, lascio che siano i miei lettori più affezionati a rispondere per me. I miei lettori sono i migliori del mondo e li amo tantissimo.
3LS: If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Patricia: That one is easy. GA Hauser has always been my greatest mentor. I have been a big fan of her writing for many years and she helped me to get started self-publishing. She’s also a close personal friend. When no one knew who I was, she helped to promote my books, she put excerpts and chapters from my books in the back of her books and she took me under her wing and taught me how to promote myself. After “Silver Ties” became popular, she was the one who told me to write a series based on those characters and so the Master’s Boys series came about as a direct result of her influence. I love her like a sister.
3LS: Se dovessi scegliere, quale scrittore consideri un mentore?
Patricia: Questa è facile. GA Hauser è sempre stata la mia più grande mentore. Sono stata una sua fan per molti anni e mi ha aiutato tantissimo ai miei esordi come scrittrice, e quando ho cominciato a pubblicare i miei lavori. È anche una mia carissima amica. Quando nessuno sapeva chi fossi, mi aiutò a promuovermi, metteva estratti e capitoli dei miei romanzi al termine dei suoi libri e prendendomi sotto la sua ala mi ha insegnato come promuovermi. Dopo il successo di “Catene d’argento” , fu proprio lei a suggerirmi di scrivere una serie basata su quei personaggi, quindi la “Masters Boys” serie è il risultato diretto della sua influenza. Le voglio bene come ad una sorella.
3LS: Have you ever been embarrassed because of what you write?
Patricia: I can’t honestly say I’ve been embarrassed by what I write. I don’t go shouting it on the street corner either (unless I’m in West Hollywood. LOL). I live in a very conservative Christian city and it’s a small town where everyone knows everyone so I don’t make a big production about it. My husband doesn’t like me talking about it at parties but his sister knows all about it and she quietly tells all her friends. That makes me very popular at her parties. LOL
3LS:Ti sei mai sentita in imbarazzo per ciò che scrivi?
Patricia: Onestamente non posso dire di essermi mai sentita in imbarazzo per quello che scrivo. Di certo non vado ad urlarlo agli angoli delle strade (a meno che non mi trovi a West Hollywood. LOL). Vivo in una piccola cittadina molto conservatrice e cattolica, ma soprattutto è un piccolo paesino, dove tutti conoscono tutto di tutti, quindi non racconto in giro quello che faccio. Mio marito inoltre non vuole che lo sbandiero alle feste, anche se sua sorella lo sa e lo dice ai suoi amici. Il che mi ha fatto diventare parecchio popolare alle sue feste. LOL.
3LS: How do you feel when you finish a book?
Patricia: Like it’s the best thing I’ve ever written. LOL. Honestly, I feel relieved because I always have the next book waiting for me. I can’t wait to finish one so that I can start the next one. It is my passion.
3LS: Come ti senti quando finisci un libro?
Patricia: Come se fosse la miglior cosa che abbia mai scritto. LOL. Onestamente, mi sento sollevata, perché ho sempre un nuovo libro che mi aspetta. Non vedo l’ora di finire una storia, così che posso cominciare a scriverne una nuova. È la mia passione.
3LS:What is your guilty pleasure?
Patricia: Travelling and eating out. I love seeing new places and trying new restaurants. I don’t get to do either enough. I also love coffee and Scottish shortbread cookies. Yummy.
3LS:Qual è il tuo piacere proibito?
Patricia:Viaggiare e mangiare fuori. Mi piace visitare posti nuovi e provare nuovi ristoranti. Anche se non faccio mai molto di nessuna delle due cose. Amo anche il caffè e i frollini scozzesi. Uh! Che buoni!!
3LS:What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?
Patricia: That writing is my fourth career. I was a jeweler, an AIDS hospice nurse, and a banker. I also speak and understand Farsi.
3LS:Quale sarebbe la cosa che ci sorprenderebbe conoscere di te?
Patricia: Che essere scrittrice è il mio quarto lavoro. Sono stata un’orefice, un’infermiera in un reparto per sieropositivi, e una bancaria. Inoltre parlo e capisco il Farsi (ovvero il persiano)
3LS:Did you expect all the success you would have in Italy?
Patricia: No. Not really. I had translated “Catene d’argento” in Spanish and two other books in French before I translated in Italian and I wasn’t prepared for the outpouring of love and support from my Italian readers. Once “Catene d’argento” was so well received, I decided to translate the Master’s Boys series and I am so glad I did. What I learned was that Italy and my incredible readers there, were thirsty for the MM genre and that there wasn’t enough MM being released there. I am very excited to translate in Italian because I get such an incredible response from my readers. Many have become my friends and that makes me very happy. It is heartwarming to find new friends and at this point, I cannot wait to release the next book to see if you like it. I am as excited as you are. It’s like Christmas morning for me every time I release a book.
3LS: Ti aspettavi un successo così grande in Italia?
Patricia: No. No davvero. Ho fatto tradurre “Catene d’argento” in spagnolo e altri due libri in francese prima di tradurlo in italiano, e non ero pronta per tutto l’amore e il supporto che ho ricevuto dai miei lettori italiani. Quando ho visto che “Catene d’argento” era stato molto apprezzato, ho deciso di far tradurre anche la serie Master’s Boys e sono felice di averlo fatto. Quello che ho imparato è che l’Italia e i miei incredibili lettori sono assetati di romanzi MM, non ne hanno mai abbastanza e sono molto eccitata dal continuare a far tradurre in italiano, perché ho sempre un’ottima risposta dai miei lettori. Alcuni di loro sono anche diventati miei amici e questo mi riempie di gioia. Ti scalda il cuore trovare nuovi amici e a questo punto, non vedo l’ora che esca anche il prossimo libro per vedere se vi piace. Sono eccitata almeno quanto voi. Ogni volta che pubblico un libro è un po’ come se fosse la mattina di Natale.
3LS: Is there any chance that in the future we can read a follow-up to “Inseguendo Deuce”?
l of them translated and available right now, but I have to wait for the translations to be completed just like you. I think you will find that I like to give my readers a second and third look at my characters and you will have the opportunity to see them again and again as the translations progress.3LS:C’è qualche speranza che in un futuro possiamo leggere il seguito di “Inseguendo Deuce“?
Patricia: È possibile, anche se ci sono molte altre storie che sono sicura amerete. Anche se la Master’s Boys più che una serie è diventata un serial, dove ogni libro può anche essere letto per conto suo, i miei lettori italiani molto presto scopriranno, che anche le mie storie auto conclusive parlano di personaggi che trovereranno anche in altri romanzi. Sto pensando di far tradurre la mia serie Armadillo e in ogni libro, anche se racconta storie diverse, ha personaggi dei libri precedenti, quindi li incontrerete anche in futuro. Vorrei poter avere una bacchetta magica per averli tutti tradotti e poterli pubblicare tutti insieme, ma anche io devo aspettare, proprio come voi, che le traduzioni vengano completate. Penso che scoprirete quanto mi piace dare ai miei lettori almeno un secondo e un terzo libro sui miei personaggi, così che abbiate l’opportunità di vederli ancora e ancora durante tutte le traduzioni.

Ciao Luisa, no “Secrets” il settimo capiolo della serie, non è quello conclusivo. Nella realtà si tratta di un’intervista con tutti i protagonisti della “Master’s Boys”. Potremmo avere notizie dei nostri amati Dom e Sub nella nuova serie di Patricia, “Invitation only” che vedrà la luce in italiano a fine gennaio 2015.
